Modeling of Corrosion of Steel in Concrete with Potential-dependent Chloride Threshold
نویسنده
چکیده
Deterministic forecast of corrosion damage progression in a reinforced concrete column was implemented in a one-dimensional model accounting for potential dependence of corrosion threshold, and macrocell coupling during the initiation and propagation stages. The damage projection was clearly sensitive to the choice of the activation zone size. The relative sensitivity became greater as the zone size decreased. Criteria for selection of this parameter need to be developed. The projected corrosion damage was significantly lowered when threshold dependence on potential was introduced, compared with a fixed threshold case. The damage projection was clearly sensitive to the choice of the activation zone size. The relative sensitivity became greater as the zone size decreased. Criteria for selection of this parameter are being developed.

A research on the corrosion inhibition of mild steel pitting corrosion in concrete pore solution by sodium nitrite was carried out by employing potentiodynamic, potentiostatic polarization and zero resistance ammetery (ZRA) techniques. Passivity breakdown potential was decreased from the transpassive potential of 700 mV at the absence of chloride to a value of -50 mV when just 0.01M NaCl was ad...

In this study, the effect of cement content on concrete performance in corrosive environments is investigated on concrete mixtures having the same water/cement (w/c) ratio. Three w/c ratios (0.40, 0.45 and 0.50) were used and for each w/c ratio three mixtures were prepared with cement contents 350, 400 and 450 kg/m3. The compressive strength, electrical resistivity and chloride diffusivity of t...

The chloride threshold value (Cth), or critical chloride content, is defined as the chloride concentration at the depth of the reinforcement, which initiates the depassivation of steel in concrete. However, very limited information is available regarding the chloride distributions at the interface with the steel. The main objective of this work is to improve the knowledge and understanding abou...
